Guys, please stop bashing the speed and other things about the footage. This is a valuable historical preservation of the (I guess) laser disc in its raw form. No interaction here. This material is priceless for collectors. The Kasco games, Nintendo's western shooting game (actually it's the original Wild Gunman from 1974), all gems from a forgotten era. There's a literal black hole that swallowed most of the information about pre-CPU arcade games and mechanical-electronic amusement park style machines. For those of you who consider yourselves gamers and enjoy mocking this, just know gaming didn't start with the PS2
This is the most pretentious thing ever lmfao. Who cares if someone rags on it, it's not like it devalues it in any way. Why do you seem personally affected by it. Just because some fools don't fully grasp it's historical significance doesn't mean anything. And yes, it does look pretty lame in modern standards, so do most other things, doesn't make it worthless and awful all of a sudden.
wonder what the thought process behind fantastic race was. "we need a 4th level for our racing game but we're out of decomissioned race tracks to film ourselves driving a golf cart around with a VHS camera attached to it!" "okay, how about we make it so you, like, drive on a galaxy road overlayed onto a picture of a woman's chest?"
so ok, let me explain: this footage looks slow cause its not connected to the actual game. The film moved faster when you were pressing on the accelerator, you see................. 🤷🏿♂️
ok i get it now, it's assets stored on the laserdisc but instead of being played in game's command they're just played one at a time. that makes so much more sense, especially when someone else said the game should have the opponent cars overlaid
This is, it was the Fuji Speedway at the time. But whether the Fuji Speedway now, according to the pursuant to the provisions of the FIA (F1GP and Formula Nippon). It is no longer the wide course. これは、当時の富士スピードウェイでしたね。だけど現在の富士スピードウェイは、FIAの規定により(F1GP及びフォーミュラニッポン)に合わせてか。幅広のコースではなくなった。
I’m guessing that this wasn’t played from 1st person, but 3rd person perspective. Your car and other racers being rendered over this video footage and your use of the accelerator pedal sped up and slowed down both the video background and your 3rd person car, relative to the other cars. Would be fascinating to see how it actually looked in its finished form
These are just the raw video files. When playing the actual game, footage would be sped up accordingly when you accelerated, and there would also be sprites of cars layered on top of the footage. There doesn't seem to be a video representing the actual gameplay of Laser Grand Prix on youtube, but for a similar experience look up "GP World (1984 Sega)".
@Goronian Internet User I have no idea. Maybe there's trouble with emulating the rom? The actual arcade cabinet is incredibly rare, and that might be the only reliable way to capture footage of it. But, I'd guess there's just no demand for it, either.
@Goronian Internet User Sorry, I don't have any info in that regard. Good luck trying to get the game running, though! I'd love to see the footage myself someday
What is this? Fuji Speedway parade lap simulator? Why is everything in English? What's with the toy clown doing muscle ups? Why does nothing make sense here?
12:52 *nobody here*
I searched for this right after watching that video lol
Nobody here
Thx!
thank you!
in high definition I guess
Can't believe Taito is the actual creator of the Rainbow Road...

Just slow it down to 0.75x and now you can play Immigrant Song on this rhythm.
Taito, the actual creator of Rainbow Road.
Thought it was lawn mower racing by the speed of things.

how would turning work in this game? would you just need to turn a steering wheel in the correct direction or else it plays a crash animation?
